Chapter 6 – Relative sea level changes in the Antarctic coastal zone

Changes in relative sea level (RSL) underpin the geomorphology and biology of the Antarctic coastal zone. They are a product of changes in regional ice dynamics, glacio-isostacy and eustatic sea level through time. In this chapter we describe the processes driving RSL change, summarize the geomorphological and biological evidence of RSL changes around Antarctica, provide regional summaries of RSL changes prior to and after the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM), and describe how detailed understanding of RSL can be applied to wider research questions and future research priorities.
