Open Oceans Group

2 November, 2011

The Open Oceans group at BAS mainly researches processes in the open ocean, as opposed to ice shelf and continental shelf processes, which are the focus of the shelf seas group.

Our subjects of interest include mixing in Drake Passage, the physical controls on primary productivity in the Scotia Sea, representation of gyres and the Antarctic Circumpolar Current in global climate models, and monitoring the production and export of Antarctic Bottom Water from the Antarctic continent, through the Scotia Sea, and into the South Atlantic Ocean.
