UKNCAR membership

The United Kingdom National Committee for Antarctic Research (UKNCAR) is a multidisciplinary committee with members representing UK scientific interests in Antarctica. All committee members are responsible for consulting with their disciplinary colleagues, active in Antarctic research, to ensure that the Committee is informed by community science activities, concerns and potential future developments.

The Steering Group is comprised of the Director of BAS, who also serves as the UK Delegate to SCAR, the UK Alternate Delegate to SCAR – typically from a UK research organisation outside BAS – who serves as the UKNCAR Chair, and the Secretary to UKNCAR.

Core Members comprise the UK Office Holders of SCAR, and representatives from key stakeholders across the UK Antarctic science community. Further “Science Representatives”, typically representing SCAR Science Programmes, Expert Groups or Action Groups, complete the committee.

The Committee meet at least once a year and minutes of these meetings and decisions made can be found on this website under Committee Meetings.

Annual meetings are open to all UK scientists with interests in Antarctic science. If you are interested in participating, then please contact the UKNCAR Secretary, Jack Humby.
