BAS Animal Welfare & Ethics Review Body

The BAS Animal Welfare & Ethics Review Body (AWERB) enforces British Antarctic Survey’s duty of care to protect animals.

The AWERB  review each and every application, from any project that has contact with animals, to maintain the highest standards of animal welfare in all programs and project that have any animal interactions.

NERC undertakes and funds a limited number of animal research activities covered by:

• the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 (ASPA)
• BAS Wildlife Interaction Manual
• Approach to the use of animals in research – NERC
