Signy Research Station Modernisation
Modernising the UK’s summer-only Antarctic research station
My career at BAS started in June 2015 within the Estates team.
In June 2016 I was appointed as Project Management Officer within the BAS Project Management Office which included working with a wide range of multi-disciplinary stakeholders to deliver a varied programme of works for projects associated with the RRS Sir David Attenborough.
Since June 2020 I have been the AIMP Information Manager which involves managing information in support of the projects delivered under the NERC/BAS Antarctic Infrastructure Modernisation Programme (AIMP). Projects include the acquisition of a new long-range transport aircraft, hangar and runway enhancements which are needed to support it, and the trial and scale-up of renewable energy generation.
Information Management is fundamental to the implementation of a digital approach to building design, delivery and management alongside our Technical Advisor Ramboll and Construction Partner BAM-Sweco.
The AIMP projects are part of a Government capital investment for the development of sustainable and efficient infrastructure.

A major milestone has been reached in the construction of a new wharf at Rothera Research Station. The first of 20 steel frames, forming the skeleten of the new structure, has been lowered into place in a piece of precision engineering.
Construction expert BAM has been chosen to partner with British Antarctic Survey (BAS) to modernise UK Antarctic and other research facilities, enabling British scientists to continue delivering world class research […]
