2. Antarctic fellfield response to climate change: a tripartite synthesis of experimental data

This paper explores the biological consequences of climate change by integrating the results of a tripartite investigation involving fumarole, field manipulation and laboratory incubation experiments. The geographical region for this […]

4. The diversity, distribution and ecology of diatoms from Antarctic inland waters

Diatoms are abundant and diverse in many Antarctic freshwaters, with a general trend of decreasing diversity moving southwards. They form an important component of many benthic algal communities in streams […]

5. Arc evolution: a magnetic perspective from the Antarctic Peninsula

The Antarctic Peninsula is a Mesozoic–Cenozoic magmatic arc built on Palaeozoic and younger basement. It was formed by processes related to the subduction of Pacific ocean floor at its western […]

6. Quasi-biennial oscillation effects in the semidiurnal tide of the Antarctic lower thermosphere

A continuous 37-year record of the geomagnetic field from Argentine Islands Geomagnetic Observatory at Faraday research station (65°S, 64°W), Antarctica, has been analysed to reveal a 27-month periodicity in the […]

7. Antarctic ice sheet melting in the southeast Pacific

The first oceanographic measurements across a deep channel beneath the calving front of Pine Island Glacier reveal a sub-ice circulation driven by basal melting of 10–12 m yr−1. A salt […]

8. Aeromagnetic data from the southern Weddell Sea embayment and adjacent areas: synthesis and interpretation

A new regional aeromagnetic anomaly map covering the southern Weddell Sea and surrounding areas was produced by combining Russian and British magnetic anomaly data acquired between 1973 and 1989. The […]

10. Temperature and the biomass of flying midges (Diptera: Chironomidae) in the high Arctic

We tested the hypothesis that habitat temperature is the driving variable determining both the short-term and seasonal patterns of abundance (biomass) of Eying adult non-biting midges (Chironomidae) in the high […]

11. Can high Arctic soil microarthropods survive eleveated summer temperatures?

    1. Tolerance of high summer temperatures was investigated in seven common species of oribatid mite (Acarina) and springtail (Collembola) found in soils associated with dominant vegetation types in West Spitsbergen, […]

12. Time-step limits for stable solutions of the ice-sheet equation

Various spatial discretizations for the ice sheet are compared for accuracy against analytical solutions in one and two dimensions. The computational efficiency of various iterated and non-iterated marching schemes is […]
