Biography
Tim is Head of Engineering & Technology at BAS.
The Engineering & Technology department delivers a wide range of services and projects to enable operations and scientific research in the polar regions. The team includes engineers specialising in a range of disciplines, including electronics, instrumentation, mechanical, radar, communications, ice drilling, vehicle maintenance and airborne survey. The team delivers engineering across polar environments: at research stations, on research ships, at sea, at field sites, on the ice and in the atmosphere.
Tim has MA and MEng degrees in Electrical and Information Sciences from Cambridge University, and an MBA from Cranfield School of Management.
Tim started his career as an Electronics Engineer in the telecoms sector, developing hardware and software for mobile phone base station systems. He was a programme manager for the development and operational service delivery of a mission-critical digital system. He has advised organisations across sectors on how to adopt advanced technologies, with a particular focus on digital connectivity. He is especially interested in how new and evolving technologies can be used to benefit society.
