As Giant Petrel and Penguin Zoological Field Assistant on Bird Island I am responsible for the continuation of the monitoring schedules for multiple species; particularly macaroni and gentoo penguins, northern and southern giant petrels and brown skuas. Work includes population census, productivity studies, tag deployments, biometric sampling and diet sampling all enabling a better understanding of species ecology and dynamics on Bird Island. Prior to BAS I ran the ecological surveying programme for the Ramsar site in Alderney, Channel Islands for two years with the Alderney Wildlife Trust. I began my seabird career with RSPB Bempton Cliffs and also have field experience in Madagascar and Ecuador.
