As a fisheries ecologist, I am part of an independent BAS project which provides scientific advice to the governments of South Georgia and the UK. My role is to provide data to support the MSC certified, sustainable management of the Patagonian toothfish and mackerel icefish fisheries at South Georgia and includes fieldwork, lab work, data analysis and preparation of scientific papers and reports. I have participated in five research surveys of fish resources in the Scotia Sea and overwintered as resident fisheries scientist at King Edward Point research station in 2012/13. In my role as a CCAMLR licensed scientific observer I have spent considerable time at sea working on commercial fishing vessels, and in 2014 I was the invited international scientist on a Ross Sea sub-adult toothfish survey run by NIWA, New Zealand. I am the line manager for two scientific field assistants based at King Edward Point and I also have responsibility for managing the laboratory facilities at KEP.
