Pascal van der Bij
I have an interdisciplinary background in life and Earth sciences, with academic and research experience across five countries. My work has included projects in palaeontology, microbiology, geochemistry, and atmospheric science, with a strong interest in Antarctica. I have also contributed to wildlife conservation and ornithology, and bring practical field experience alongside scientific expertise. My current PhD is on trace elements, isotopes and DNA in Antarctic marine sediments.
Research interests
- Reconstructing glacial-interglacial ice sheet dynamics by investigating source-to-sink detrital sediment transport on the Antarctic continental margin
- Air mass origin characteristics and their limited influence on (oxy-)PAH concentrations in East Antarctic summer
- A study of the early Oligocene and early Miocene Diplocynodon (Crocodylia) material housed in the Filhol collection of KU Leuven (Belgium)
