Halley Diary – February 2014
February was a really busy month at Halley. The month has started with the arrival of Summer Science Staff on the RRS Ernest Shackleton – this was the second Shack’s […]
I’m currently wintering at Halley VI Research Station in Antarctica for the second time, working as Data Manager. I have wintered here before in the same role, from December 2013 till March 2015.
I am responsible for daily management and administration of the servers and systems used to store scientific data coming from various experiments running at Halley. My work involves supporting other members of the Science Team by developing, building, implementing and maintaining software and services used for data collection, storage, processing and visualisation. Additionally, as one of four members of the Science Team, I take part in a meteorological and ozone level observations. I’m also a member of the Halley Search and Rescue (SAR) Team.
Outside of work, I’m a technical mixed gas diver and recreational SCUBA diving instructor, a sailor, a keen photographer and an outdoor enthusiast.
Throughout my time here I have been running my own blog describing some of the experiences of wintering at Halley, as well as doing a year long Photo a Day project called Antarctica366. I have also made a 360° Virtual Tour of Halley Station.
