BAS Honorary Researcher
My primary research interest is improving the representation of supraglacial (i.e. glacier-surface) debris in glacier models. This interest developed during my PhD, which focussed on testing and developing field- and remote sensing-based methods of quantifying supraglacial debris thickness, which is a key control on glacier surface ice-melt rates, and therefore on mass balance, dynamics and geometry. I am currently working at the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research (WSL), and at BAS as an Honorary Researcher, where I am applying my PhD work at a larger scale, and where I am developing a new model for predicting ice-melt below a debris layer, which will improve our ability to predict long-term surface melt from debris-covered glaciers.
