Krill Hotspots
The aim of this project is to understand the biological and physical factors that produce the very large swarms of krill, or “krill hotspots” that are found in the South Orkneys region.
Dan is the Mechanical Engineer within AME. His work is primarily the design and prototyping of scientific equipment for use in the Polar Regions. Dan also provides mechanical support to scientific projects in the Antarctic and aboard the BAS research vessels.

A new drill (the Rapid Access Isotope Drill, or RAID) is being developed by BAS which, rather than collect a full ice-core, this drill will chop up the ice and will allow collecting ice chippings.
