I am a strategic programme leader with more than 25 years of experience delivering high-impact research, innovation, and organisational transformation across academia, government, and industry.

As Senior Programme Manager, ARIA Specialist at the British Antarctic Survey (BAS), I support the delivery of pioneering ARIA-funded programmes, helping researchers transform ambitious scientific ideas into impactful initiatives that address global environmental challenges. Current flagship projects include GIANT, which is investigating how the melting of the Greenland Ice Sheet may trigger Atlantic climate tipping points, and Eco-ICE, which is developing environmental safety frameworks to assess the potential impacts of future climate intervention projects.

My background spans industrial, environmental and energy engineering, and a PhD in biological engineering, providing a unique interdisciplinary perspective on leading complex research and innovation programmes.  I have built and managed national and international collaborations funded by UKRI, the European Union, and other major organisations. My expertise includes programme and portfolio management, research strategy, stakeholder engagement, governance, financial oversight, organisational development, and research culture.

Prior to my current role, I held senior leadership positions at BAS, as Head of Research Development and Support, where I oversaw research support services, managed substantial project portfolios, and contributed to institutional strategy and innovation. Before returning to BAS, I served as Head of Strategic Research Development and Graduate Studies at the Babraham Institute, leading strategic funding initiatives, doctoral training programmes, and research culture development.

At the Babraham Institute, I successfully led the development and delivery of the research culture component of the 2023 BBSRC quinquennial funding review. I also spearheaded a comprehensive review of the Institute’s research culture, aligning its Strategic Vision with the BBSRC Institute Strategy and embedding the principles of Team Science across the organisation. This work resulted in the creation of a four-year operational programme, the Roadmap for Team Science, focused on People, Communications, Technology, and Community. The initiative was recognised as winners of  the first ARMA Research Culture Award in 2025.

Working closely with the Knowledge Exchange team at Babraham, I also helped secure a three-year BBSRC Industrial Doctoral Landscape Award worth more than £2.2 million for the BioSCaPe PhD Programme. This collaborative initiative brought together leading research organisations, including the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, the Wellcome Sanger Institute, and the University of Cambridge, alongside industry partners such as AstraZeneca, Illumina, and Alloy Therapeutics.

I am passionate about enabling excellent science through collaboration, inclusive leadership, capacity building, and effective programme delivery. My focus is on creating the conditions in which researchers and teams can thrive while supporting bold, transformative research that advances environmental sustainability, scientific discovery, and societal benefit.
