By thinning and accelerating, West Antarctic ice streams are contributing about 10% of the observed global sea level rise. Much of this ice loss is from Pine Island Glacier, which […]
Repeat-pass ICESat altimetry has revealed 124 discrete surface height changes across the Antarctic Ice Sheet, interpreted to be caused by subglacial lake discharges (surface lowering) and inputs (surface uplift). Few […]
Dosidicus gigas (Humboldt or jumbo squid) (Orbigny, 1835) is the largest ommastrephid squid, reaching up to 1.2m mantle length and 65kg in weight. This pelagic squid is endemic to the […]
A detailed Rb-Sr geochronological and geochemical study has been carried out on granitoids of the North Patagonian batholith in Aysén. The results for 25 plutonic bodies reveal a complex age […]
Comprehensive information on Antarctic macrobenthic community structure has been publicly available since the 1960s. It stems from trawl, dredge, grab, and corer samples as well as from direct and camera […]
Meesia uliginosa Hedw. and the family Meesiaceae are recorded for the first time in the Antarctic. The species is occasional on Joinville and James Ross Islands near the Trinity Peninsula, […]
Red sprites consist of multiple ionised columns extending above a thunderstorm from ∼30 km to ∼90 km. Electron densities in these columns are very much larger than the ambient background, […]
With the planned European Programme for Ice Coring in Antarctica in Dronning Maud Land it is important to understand the processes leading to accumulation for successful interpretation of core data. […]
We examined the dynamics of the ionospheric plasma in the dayside sector by using the HF radar data at Iceland West and at Finland from 1100 to 1230 UT on […]
Moraine Corrie Glacier lies close to the UK summer station Fossil Bluff where meteorological measurements have been taken intermittently since 1961. The elevation of the glacier surface has been measured […]
