The Pampean Orogeny of the southern proto-Andes: Cambrian continental collision in the Sierras de Cordoba
Read more of: The Pampean Orogeny of the southern proto-Andes: Cambrian continental collision in the Sierras de CordobaA detailed study of the pre-Silurian geology of the Sierras de Córdoba, Eastern Sierras Pampeanas, is used to define the sequence of magmatic and metamorphic events during the Pampean orogeny. […]

Early evolution of the Proto-Andean margin of South America
Read more of: Early evolution of the Proto-Andean margin of South AmericaFrom a detailed study of a 500 km transect in the Sierras Pampeanas, central-west Argentina, two pre-Silurian tectono-magmatic episodes are recognized and defined, each culminating in micro-continental collisions against the […]

Ice shelf/ocean interactions under the Amery Ice Shelf: seasonal variability and its effect on marine ice formation
Read more of: Ice shelf/ocean interactions under the Amery Ice Shelf: seasonal variability and its effect on marine ice formationMarine ice is an important factor in ice shelf stability. An extensive marine ice layer is present under the Amery Ice Shelf (AIS), East Antarctica. This paper documents observations on […]

A horizon scan of global conservation issues for 2014
Read more of: A horizon scan of global conservation issues for 2014This paper presents the output of our fifth annual horizon-scanning exercise, which aims to identify topics that increasingly may affect conservation of biological diversity, but have yet to be widely […]

Large-scale submarine landslides, channel and gully systems on the southern Weddell Sea margin, Antarctica
Read more of: Large-scale submarine landslides, channel and gully systems on the southern Weddell Sea margin, AntarcticaNew multibeam bathymetric data from the southeastern Weddell Sea show significant differences in surface morphology of the outer continental shelf and slope between two adjacent cross-shelf troughs. These are the […]

Quaternary history of the Antarctic Circumpolar Current: evidence from the Scotia Sea
Read more of: Quaternary history of the Antarctic Circumpolar Current: evidence from the Scotia SeaWithin the Scotia Sea, the axis of the Antarctic Circumpolar Current (ACC) is geographically confined, and sediments therefore contain a record of palaeo-flow speed uncomplicated by ACC axis migration. We […]

Glacial–interglacial deposition on a sediment drift on the Pacific margin of the Antarctic Peninsula
Read more of: Glacial–interglacial deposition on a sediment drift on the Pacific margin of the Antarctic PeninsulaOn the continental rise west of the Antarctic Peninsula there are nine large mounds interpreted as sediment drifts, separated by turbidity current channels. Drift 7 is 150 km long, 70 […]

Re-examining the Antarctic Paradox: speculation on the southern Ocean as a nutrient-limited system
Read more of: Re-examining the Antarctic Paradox: speculation on the southern Ocean as a nutrient-limited systemThe Southern Ocean is the largest of the high-nutrient, low-chlorophyll (HNLC) regions of the world ocean. Phytoplankton production fails to utilise completely the pool of inorganic nutrients in the euphotic […]
