Krill fishing in the Scotia Sea in relation to bathymetry, including the detailed distribution around South Georgia
Read more of: Krill fishing in the Scotia Sea in relation to bathymetry, including the detailed distribution around South GeorgiaAnalyses of the distribution of krill fishing based on fine-scale (0.5o latitude x 1o longitude) data show that harvesting in the Scotia Sea has been mainly in shelf and shelf-break […]

Postweaning behaviour in pups of the southern elephant seal (Mirounga leonina) on South Georgia
Read more of: Postweaning behaviour in pups of the southern elephant seal (Mirounga leonina) on South GeorgiaAfter weaning, southern elephant seal pups (Mirounga leonina) fast for 3 – 8 weeks, for largely unknown reasons. During the postweaning fast we observed daytime behaviour and movements of pups […]

Forward Modeling of the Internal Layers in Radio Echo Sounding Using Electrical and Density Measurements from Ice Cores
Read more of: Forward Modeling of the Internal Layers in Radio Echo Sounding Using Electrical and Density Measurements from Ice CoresThe measured density and conductivity of a 181 m ice core are used to calculate a profile of complex reflection coefficients. It is confirmed that the amplitude reflection coefficients due […]

Aqueous geochemistry as an indicator of chemical weathering on southeastern Alexander Island, Antarctica1
Read more of: Aqueous geochemistry as an indicator of chemical weathering on southeastern Alexander Island, Antarctica1Chemical alteration of rock in the Antarctic is considered to be less dominant than physical weathering processes. The research presented in this discussion represents investigations to determine the extent of […]

Airborne dispersal of antarctic terrestrial algae and cyanobacteria
Read more of: Airborne dispersal of antarctic terrestrial algae and cyanobacteriaThe dispersal of algae and cyanobacteria at three Antarctic fellfield sites was investigated using microscopic and culture analysis of samples from active and passive air samplers Intersite variation in the […]

Seasonality in Antarctic airborne fungal spores
Read more of: Seasonality in Antarctic airborne fungal sporesAirborne fungal spores were monitored over periods of up to 131/2 months at three sites on Signy Island in the maritime Antarctic. Fungal spore concentrations in the air were much […]

Laboratory evaluation of a new aerobiological sampler for use in the Antarctic
Read more of: Laboratory evaluation of a new aerobiological sampler for use in the AntarcticIn order to operate successfully and reliably in inhospitable polar climates, an aerobiological sampler requires a number of characteristics. It must sample a large volume of air, sample extremes of […]
