2. Diving pattern and performance in the macaroni penguinEudptes chrysolophus

The pattern and characteristics of diving in two female macaroni penguins Eudyptes chrysolophus was studied, during the brooding period, using continuous-recording time-depth recorders, for a total of I8 days (15 […]

4. Crustal structure of the Gamburtsev Province, East Antarctica, from airborne geophysics

The Gamburtsev Subglacial Mountains are completely buried by the East Antarctic Ice Sheet and hence are one of the most enigmatic tectonic features on Earth. The mountain range is underlain […]

7. Stratigraphy and regional significance of the Upper Jurassic-Lower Cretaceous Byers Group, Livingston Island, Antarctica

The Byers Group, exposed on Byers Peninsula, western Livingston Island, Antarctica, comprises a mudstone dominated sequence at least 1 km thick which accumulated in a marginal fore-arc environment. The basal, […]

8. Extreme relativistic electron fluxes in the Earth’s outer radiation belt: Analysis of INTEGRAL IREM data

Relativistic electrons (E > 500 keV) cause internal charging and are an important space weather hazard. To assess the vulnerability of the satellite fleet to these so-called “killer” electrons, it […]

9. Bipolar molluscs and their evolutionary implications

The phenomenon of bipolarity, one of the major disjunct distribution patterns on the face of the earth, has been investigated repeatedly since the mid-nineteenth century. Running through the many hypotheses […]

10. Latitudinal range fluctuations in the marine realm through geological time

Our concept of polar marine faunas as having evolved in comparative isolation over long periods may need to be revised. New evidence from the Southern Ocean, in particular, suggests that […]

11. Testing Munk’s hypothesis for submesoscale eddy generation using observations in the North Atlantic

A high-resolution satellite image that reveals a train of coherent, submesoscale (6 km) vortices along the edge of an ocean front is examined in concert with hydrographic measurements in an […]

12. Revealing higher than expected meiofaunal diversity in Antarctic sediments: a metabarcoding approach

An increasing number of studies are showing that Antarctic mega- and macrofauna are highly diverse, however, little is known about meiofaunal biodiversity in sediment communities, which are a vital part […]
