A knowledge of the assimilation of food and of the energetic demands of chicks at different stages in the growth period can provide a basis for understanding growth strategies of […]
An artificial nest incorporating an automated weighing device, suitable for chick growth studies on some species of seabirds, is described. (2) The operating weight range is 1-7 kg, with an […]
Activity recorders were attached to 13 Gray-headed Albatrosses (Diomedea chrysostoma) rearing chicks at South Georgia in February 1982. During foraging trips to sea totalling 284 bird-days, an average of 74% […]
Position fixes made at the British Antarctic Survey station, Halley, on the Brunt Ice Shelf are considered for the period 1968–82. These show an initial westward velocity of approximately 400 […]
Georesistivity soundings have been carried out at four sites in the Antarctic Peninsula. The objective of the work was to investigate the electrical behaviour of ice from an area where […]
Glaciological estimates of the ice supply to George VI Ice Shelf are obtained by integrating the accumulation over the catchment. The basal melt (or possible shelf thickening) rates for the […]
Data are assembled from a number of sources on several species of Procellariiformes breeding on South Georgia, covering the amount, frequency and energetic content of feeds brought to the young, […]
The relationship between isotope concentration and salinity provides important evidence on the origin of water masses. In polar regions it can be used to deduce the isotopic composition of melting […]
