FP7: Research on climate change in polar environments must include effects on biota of both polar regions
Polar biology is on the threshold of a
revolution based on new technologies (e.g.
genomics, proteomics), which will greatly
enhance our knowledge of polar ecosystems
and their biodiversity. The broad biological
approach (e.g. physiology, ecology, molecular
biology, biochemistry, phylogeny) allows
researchers to monitor the impact of changes
on polar species, on their adaptation and
capacity to cope with ongoing climate
changes and survive. In global terms, polar
research is advancing at a fast pace, and the
contribution by European biologists is very
significant.
