The nearest rail station is Cambridge. Direct trains from:
- London King’s Cross or Liverpool Street (about 1 hour)
- London Stansted Airport (about 35 minutes)
By bus
From Cambridge Train Station
Take the Universal U1 or U2 bus from Stop 8 (Eddington–Addenbrooke’s route).
- Weekdays: every 15 minutes (07:00–19:30)
- Saturdays: every 20 minutes (08:00–18:30)
- No Sunday service
Get off at “Philippa Fawcett Drive” on Charles Babbage Road, then walk. Depending on traffic conditions, the journey can take between 30-60 minutes.
From Cambridge city centre
Most local and National Express buses stop at Drummer Street Bus Station.
From Drummer Street Bus Station you can take several local routes including 4, 905 and X3.
Get off at “British Antarctic Survey” on Madingley Road, then walk. Depending on traffic conditions, the journey can take between 6-20 minutes.
By bike
Cambridge is known as the cycling capital of the UK, and BAS encourages visitors to travel by bike.
- From Cambridge train station: around 20 minutes.
- From Cambridge city centre: around 15 minutes.
- Cycle hire is available at the train station, Grand Arcade, and Market Square.
- Sheltered bike parking stands are available at British Antarctic Survey.
By car
We are near the M11 motorway, west of Cambridge. There is limited visitor parking. Please avoid driving directly to our site if possible.

By air
The closest major airport is London Stansted. From Stansted you can either take a:
- train to Cambridge (around 35 minutes)
- National Express coach to Cambridge (around 55 minutes)
- taxi to BAS (around 45 minutes)
