The British Antarctic Survey (BAS) library is part of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) Library Service. The physical holdings in Cambridge include a wide collection of scientific books, journals, and offprints – all with a polar emphasis.

Subjects include:

  • geology
  • geophysics
  • glaciology
  • climatology
  • meteorology
  • upper atmosphere physics
  • marine, terrestrial and freshwater biology
  • environmental policy

The library also keeps a collection of material on the history of the polar regions, including expedition reports and personal memoirs. See the library catalogue for full holdings.

Access

External researchers and students are welcome to visit the library by appointment. The library is accessible to wheelchair users. Please note that occasionally the library is unattended so it is important to contact us before visiting.
