Louise Bacon
Biological Data Assistant
Biography
At BAS I am a Biological data assistant in the Polar Data Centre. I process the penguin weighbridge data from Bird Island, Fishery data from South Georgia and South Sandwich and other long-term datasets, generally assisting Mari and Helen with whatever needs checking and processing.
I used to be a Biochemist studying human immune system malfunction whilst being a part-time naturalist and conservationist. Then I converted to being an environmental data enthusiast, and have worked in local environmental records centres in Eastern England on various projects within biological recording and data management. I have been a birder since childhood, am now a bird ringer, and the Cambridgeshire county bird recorder. I am also a butterfly and moth enthusiast, with an interest in several other taxon groups including lichens, ants and molluscs. When not in front of maps or a database I can usually be found in woodlands carrying out vital management work, or surveying farmland birds.
