Biography
I’m a PhD student in Biosciences at the University of Coimbra (Portugal) with the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) and the Marine and Environmental Science Centre of the University of Coimbra (MARE-UC).
My project is under the supervision of Peter Fretwell, Norman Ratcliffe, and José Xavier, and I’m an active member of the Wildlife from Space team and Ecosystems team at BAS, as well as from the Ecology and Conservation of Top Predators group at MARE-UC.
Research interests
My research interests span a multidisciplinary approach to study marine animals and the impact of climate change on apex predators in Antarctica.
Currently, I’m studying emperor penguins from space using satellite imagery to learn more about their diet through the color of their guano. On Earth, I also combine tracking analysis to determine where the penguins are going to forage and DNA analysis of their guano to identify their diet composition.
In addition to my scientific work, I’m deeply engaged in educational and outreach activities related to polar science, aiming to raise awareness about the significance of conservation efforts in the polar regions.
