SUMMARY:CCfCS event: Panel discussion on IPCC special reports
DESCRIPTION:“Over the last decades\, global warming has led to widespread shrinking of the cryosphere\, with mass loss from ice sheets and glaciers (very high confidence)\, reductions in snow cover (high confidence) and Arctic sea ice extent and thickness (very high confidence)\, and increased permafrost temperature (very high confidence).” \n“Land provides the principal basis for human livelihoods and well-being including the supply of food\, freshwater and multiple other ecosystem services\, as well as biodiversity. Human use directly affects more than 70% (likely 69-76%) of the global\, ice-free land surface (high confidence). Land also plays an important role in the climate system.” \nIf you would like to hear more about the recent IPCC special reports on Oceans and Cryosphere in a Changing Climate and Climate change and Land Use\, come to our panel discussion on Thursday 28 November. You will hear short summaries of the reports and join in the debate. \nYou can find the report on Climate Change and Land here\, and the report on the Ocean and Cryosphere here. \nSchedule: \n1:00—2.45 pm: Summaries and panel discussion. Bring your questions! \n2.45 pm: Cake and refreshments \nPanel members: \nPete Smith: Coordinating lead author on the land report. \nSpeaker tbc : Land report \nEric Wolff: Royal Society Research Professor working on ice cores and past Climate \nMike Meredith: Coordinating lead author of Oceans and Cryosphere report. \nSanna Markkanen: Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership working on climate policy and financing sustainable infrastructure. \nThis is a free event\, but due to space limitations registration is essential.
