CAMBRIDGE SERIES 2: HOW WILL CLIMATE CHANGE AFFECT ME?
Dr. Emily Shuckburgh is a climate scientist and mathematician, and is co-author of the Ladybird book on Climate Change. Returning to the Hay festival, Emily will speak about her research on modelling localised effects of climate change – from Arctic warming to flooding in Tewkesbury, from severe drought in Malawi to record-breaking temperatures in Thailand, and from the acidification of the Barrier Reef to the hurricanes battering the Caribbean.
Dr Emily Shuckburgh leads the national research programme on the Southern Ocean and its role in climate (ORCHESTRA), is deputy head of the Polar Oceans Team and leads the Data Science Group at the British Antarctic Survey.
She is a fellow of the Royal Meteorological Society and co-chair of their Climate Science Communications Group. She has also acted as an advisor to the UK Government on behalf of the Natural Environment Research Council. In 2016 she was awarded an OBE for services to science and the public communication of science.
