Here are a number of polar AI topics we are seeking students and collaborators for. This is not an exhaustive list, but instead aims to highlight the potential for the application of AI and Data Science to boost environmental science discovery.
These projects will be offered to our students funded by the Centre for Doctoral Training in ‘AI for Environemtnal Risks‘ but we are also open to hearing from other students with alternative sources of funding, and AI and Data Science engineers looking to collaborate with environmental scientists.
1. Environmental Digital Twins: design machine learning algorithms and data pipelines for intelligently combining satellite and surface sensor data, together with physics-based modelling, to help develop capacity for Digital Twinning of the natural envionment (e.g., Digital Twin Antarctic)
2. Application of Convolutional Neural Networks and Computer Vision techniques for detecting change in marine species under controlled environmental warming conditions.
